2020 has it all in sneaker terms! We’ve got the new collaborations, new colorways, even new silhouettes! But it also has the retros we all love. And next month, Jordan Brand is taking us back 30 years. Does this ring a bell? Well if you’re an MJ fan and love your sneakers, it certainly will. 1990 is the year Michael Jordan and Nike dropped not one, but two Air Jordan 5 Fire Red! We’ll get into the differences later on. But what we wanna say is, 2020 is bringing with it the Retro Fire Red Air Jordan 5.
Six. Retro number 6! The basketball kicks were supposed to drop on March 28, 2020. That coincides with the 30th anniversary of the 69 points that MJ dropped on the Bulls’ game against the Cleveland Cavaliers! However, the release date changed to April 25, much to our disappointment.
The upcoming Jordan 5 Fire Red will retail for $200, so if you’re waiting for the perfect kicks, here they are!
Air Jordan 5 is the silhouette that got us and Spike Lee wondering: “Is it the shoes?” Just kidding though.
Anyway, in 1990 we got these three different colorways: Air Jordan 5 Fire Red, Grape and the black OG!
Oh wait, there was another Fire Red too! The difference between the two colorways was that they had the midsole colors flipped and the black midsole version was without the “23” embroidery.
With the new Millennium came the first retro of the Air Jordan 5 Fire Red. It looked exactly like the black midsole colorway of 1990. So if you missed the OG, Jordan Brand got your back!
This time, a retro of the public release of Jordan 5 Fire Red dropped, and no one was sad about that. And good news, the “23” embroidery was on the side too!
2008 marked a really cool moment in Jordan Brand’s history. Jordan XX3 was about to drop, and the brand decided to hype the crowds by dropping the Countdown Packs! One of these packs had another retro of the Air Jordan 5 Fire Red! It was as true to the OG as it could get, minus the Jumpman embroidery replacing the Nike Air branding on the heels.
Aaaand another retro. To be exact, it’s retro number 4! And no, it’s not the last. But somehow, these kicks always manage to be successful. That’s probably because when a silhouette is your favorite, it really is your favorite! And this one had all the OG elements, reflective silver tongue, and whatnot.
The last one, I promise. This drop is a retro of the Jordan 5 with red midsoles! The main difference is that this was an Air Jordan 5 Low. The other differences were the Jumpman on the heels and the absence of number 23 embroidery.
That’s true! If you’re a baller, sneakerhead, or just a fan of Michael Jordan, these are must-have sneakers. This sentimental side of the kicks goes beyond all the money in the world for some of us. And if you’re one of these people, you better get ready to cop!
On another note, if the AJ5 is not your silhouette, Air Jordan 4 is dropping later on in 2020 in a Fire Red colorway! To be exact, on Black Friday 2020, but we still have time for that don’t we?
