Okay so, not all the kicks we’re gonna mention here are Nike per se. However, Jordan Brand falls under the Nike umbrella in a way. And Converse has been a Nike subsidiary since 2003 so… you got it. Now, we didn’t include all the classic sneakers from Nike. I mean, we gotta leave something for the other brands fam.

Nike Cortez

I think we can all agree that Nike Cortez left a huge impact on both the sneaker and pop culture. Ever since it made it to the big screen with Forrest Gump, it became a timeless icon. After all, you gotta be super special to steal the show from Tom Hanks. The silhouette also made an epic appearance in a movie years later, find out where here!

So a little backstory, Nike Cortez is the brainchild of Nike’s co-founder Bill Bowerman. The 1972 kicks goal was to be comfortable and durable running shoes for athletes. He designed the kicks for distance and road running. Honestly, Nike Cortez set the standard for running shoes and got many redesigns throughout the years to stay on top.

Nike Air Force 1 – Classic Sneakers Can Look Good

The 80s sure was the era of revolutionary sneakers. From the Air cushioning to new basketball kicks, we got it all then and there. The sneaker designer Bruce Kilgore dropped the bomb in 1982 with the Nike Air Force 1. The kicks were the first basketball shoes to feature Air cushioning.

Soon, the kicks broke the boundaries of the basketball court and became a lifestyle shoe. You don’t have to be a baller anymore to own a pair of these babies. A sense of fashion is a requirement though.

Nike Dunk

Another pair of classic sneakers that you must own. We’re not exaggerating fam, not owning a pair of Dunks at some point in your life is a crime equivalent. The Dunks are also 80s babies and were also basketball kicks. The silhouette is a hybrid of four silhouettes: AJ1, AF1, Terminator, and Legend. But what was initially a basketball sneaker branched out into different divisions. The main one is the Nike SB Dunk we love so much!

A name that really needs no introduction. The Air Jordan line is Michael Jordan’s baby that changed the sneaker industry for good. And we couldn’t be more grateful for that collab between him and the Swoosh! After all, who doesn’t know the iconic Jumpman logo? Converse Chuck Taylor All Star 70

So Converse is probably the oldest company on our list today. From a rubber company to one of the biggest sneaker culture icons, we can definitely say it did it all. And with Chuck Taylor’s business smarts, the Chuck 70s became the go-to basketball shoes. But then, the low-top kicks came to life, and bam! The younger generation hopped on because of how easy they are to wear. Let’s not forget that color diversity became a sign of self-expression for the kids.

Adidas Stan Smith – Tennis Shoes That Made History

Although Stan Smith actually retired the game 36 years ago, his namesake kicks definitely didn’t. Adidas thought it would be a great idea to drop leather tennis shoes during the canvas era. And they definitely caused a long-term switch in the sneaker culture. That’s one heck of a must-have, and they’re great beaters if you ask me.

Adidas Superstar – We Make a Mean Team, My Adidas and Me

Well, Run DMC weren’t playing around with that song fam. Anyway, thanks to the Superstars, Adidas signed an endorsement deal with Run DMC. That was actually the first non-athlete endorsement. So we’re sorry Ye, you revolutionized a lot, just not the music/sneaker merge. This silhouette is still relevant today with high-end collabs like Adidas x Prada. But we just love them for what they are: a pretty versatile pair of kicks!

Vans Old Skool – Grungy Classic Sneakers Are IT

If you were aware of the early 2000s trends, you’d know that edgy teens were all the rage. Thanks, Avril Lavigne. But she didn’t only influence people with her music, she also made grungy fashion a thing. And apparently, Vans checks all the boxes. After all, we all love us a skater boi, don’t we?

First things first! Before you worry about the lifespan of those kicks you just copped, you gotta worry about where to put them. This list will serve you according to the size of your sneaker collection! Whether you’re a rookie, middle-ground, or hoarder-level sneakerhead, we gotchu. Here’s where to put your kicks so you don’t feel like you have one too many pairs!

Entry Level Collector (0 – 50 Pairs)

New to the game and don’t really have that many sneakers? If your collection consists of 20 or fewer pairs of sneakers, you can just keep them around in your room. It’s not a very outrageous number of kicks to have. Now if that number keeps growing and falls somewhere between 20 and 50, you’re gonna have to organize. Maybe display some on shelves, keep others tucked away in your closet, and rotate them every once in a while! You know, keep the sneaker vibes fresh.

S**t’s Getting Serious (50 – 150 Pairs)

This is where dedication starts to pay off. Whether you’re a sneaker collector, or copped kicks in bulk to flip them, you’ll need some serious space. Shelves won’t do, and you’re gonna need an independent space; maybe a walk-in shoe closet? If not, you can move your operation room to the guest room/garage!

Sneaker Storage for a Master Collector (150+ Pairs)

You copped your latest couple of kicks and now you’re knee-deep in shoes? The other room can barely contain the kicks? That means it’s time to make that sneaker storage a bit bigger! You can always rent a storage space, there are different sizes available. You can even go a step further and rent a small (or big) container! That might sound weird, but trust me, there’s nothing better than a climate-controlled environment!

Sneaker Storage – The How

Now that you know where to store your sneakers, you can’t just dump them and leave them without proper care! You’re gonna need to make sure you preserve these kicks from weathering and glue cracks. So here’s what you’re gonna need to keep your kicks in pristine condition, especially if you’re reselling them!

Store in a Cool, Dark, and Dry Place

Heat is a no-no, it could ruin the sneakers in the long run. Sun can make the colors wear off, and humidity will cause mold and ruin the kicks in time too. That’s why a sneaker storage space with climate control is a pretty good idea. However, make sure you take the kicks out and air them every now and then! You gotta keep a balance, being excessive in either would lead to sneaker damage. You can always use the silica packets that come with the shoes to control the moisture. Surprisingly, there’s a ton of things that you can use the packets for instead of tossing them away.

You shouldn’t keep your kicks in their original box unless you’re reselling them very soon. We all love our kicks to be in deadstock condition! Anyway, if you wanna keep the kicks in their box, we recommend getting a Ziploc bag. That way you can put the kicks in the bags and restore them in the box. And voilà, a very affordable storage hack!

However, if you have cash to spare and wanna buy style in addition to sneaker storage, we gotchu. Although a bit pricier than Ziploc bags, the transparent sneaker box crates are a treat to the eye! They’re also pretty handy if you own a big collection. That way, you won’t have to wonder where a certain pair is!

Fill The Kicks Up and Stop the Shrinkage

So everything changes with time, especially sneakers. Time is not kind to any kicks, let alone our favorites! They’ll crease, shrink, and maybe stink. However, you can stop that shrinkage using shoe trees. What are those, you might be asking. Well, these are shoe accessories you insert into your kicks to reshape them and stretch them! But these could be costly, so if you want a go-to solution, just stuff your gym socks in.

Keep Them Clean Yo!

This should go without saying, but there ain’t no harm in a kind reminder! Always always keep your sneakers fresh and clean. No matter how tired you are after flexing that exclusive pair on a meetup with your friends or family! Dirt and stink can seriously shorten your sneaker’s life without you noticing. The New Winter Sneakers of 2021 Hit Different!

So, winter is almost here, and we all know how snow, rain, and mud could affect your sneakers’ life. And a pair of sneakers in bad shape is a bad look on any sneakerhead! But the new winter sneakers we’re gonna discuss today are meant to help you bring heat in the cold.

Jordan 1 Low ‘Sherpa Fleece’

Okay, I know what you’re thinking. Who needs a hybrid of UGGs and Air Jordan 1s? But man do these look comfy. And really, what’s so wrong with a pair of snug Air Jordans? The kicks come in a cool-looking beige suede upper and sherpa fleece sock liners. So if you’re looking for a lit pair of kicks to match your loungewear, this pair is it!

Jordan 1 High Acclimate ‘Black’

Half boot, half drip. What more could a sneakerhead ask for? The winter sneakers will come in a weatherproof design that’ll be helpful throughout the winter days. The upper comes in a cool black leather with a rubber-like feel to it. The perforations are also closed off to prevent water leaks and so on. The collar comes with AJ13-like pockmarks and eyestays like those we have on winter boots. Finally, the liners come in the same sherpa fleece as the Lows we just discussed.

This pair lowkey reminds me of the ice cream sandwich. It features all the same technical weatherproof details as the all-black pair. However, the upper comes in a mix of brown and white, with a cool beige Nike swoosh. So if you thought that the black pair is a bit too grim, this is the perfect alternative for you!

GORE-TEX and Air Jordan 1 Are a Win in Our Books

Although we still don’t have clear deets about these kicks, we know we’ll be enjoying winter in style. The new Jordan 1 High will probably come dressed in the weather-resistant Gore-Tex material. Rumor has it that the kicks will come in a black and grey colorway. Pretty basic, but we dig classic-looking sneakers.

What’s the Adidas Forum?

It’s storytime! Believe it or not, the Adidas Forum is a 1983 basketball classic. So it kinda goes head to head with Nike’s classic Air Force 1 and Dunks. The French designer Jacques Chassaign did a lot of research to come up with this silhouette. He interviewed coaches and basketball players and found out that the ankle is the weakest point. That’s why he came up with the “criss-cross ankle system” that protects the ankle area.

The kicks were and still are pretty cool. What makes it even better is that none other than Michael Jordan rocked the pair! He did that during the USA Olympic trials. But then he went on to launch the iconic Air Jordan line, so hard luck Adidas. Anyway, the kicks had a resurgence in 2009 and dipped out of sight once again.

Finally, 2021 introduced us to the Adidas Forum in a new way. This time, it’s not only your average basketball pair but also an awesome lifestyle choice. Hence, the new Bad Bunny Adidas Forum collab! Let’s check it out, shall we?

Bad Bunny Adidas Forum – Potential Three Stripes Comeback?

So when we talk hot and hype sneakers, we rarely mention Adidas. Sure, Yeezys are there, but normal silhouettes rarely make the list. Happily, the new Bad bunny Adidas collab could change that! I mean, the resale is pretty good, but we’ll get to that later. The upcoming Bad Bunny Adidas Forum Triple Black features an -obviously- all-black upper. Moreover, it comes with plenty of Bad Bunny’s motifs including “El Ojo” (the eye) on the tongue. The release will also include extra laces and a dust bag with co-branding.

Release Deets

The upcoming Bad Bunny Adidas Forum will drop on August 17, 2021, for $160. It’s gonna be available on the Confirmed app and select retailers. However, what really matters to us is the resale! If you manage to cop the kicks, you can actually flip them for $1,300 on average. That’s a sh*tload of money if it stays that way! But then again, that depends on the stock level, and apparently, Adidas is trying to play the game. So let’s wait and see!

Some More Bad Bunny Adidas Forums to Flex

The upcoming black pair is definitely neither the first nor the last of the Bad Bunny Adidas collaboration. The first pair was actually “The First Cafe”, a nod to the artist’s morning coffee to get his day going. The kicks dropped in March 2021, and are worth around $1,000 on the aftermarket. A pretty good number if you managed to cop on retail!

Fast forward to Easter, and Bad Bunny dropped his very pink pair of Adidas Forum lows. That pair dropped just in time for the holidays! But if you want your own pair, you can get it for $550 on average on the resale market. Okay so, this season we’re not just getting one colorway of Air Jordan 1, but four different ones! And honestly, we can never get enough of them no matter what. The first one on our list is the pretty fantastic “Pollen” yellow and black colorway. It will drop on July 8, 2021, for $170. The pair actually resells for $700, a must-have, right?

Next up, we got the pretty cool Jordan 1 Electro Orange. It’s a mashup of orange, white, and black leather that can never go wrong! It’ll drop on July 17, 2021, for the usual $170. And if you’re looking for an easy flip, this pair will go for around $400!

Now we’re getting to some exciting news. The awesome Jordan 1 Prototype is a pair that will give you a feel of customizability! It comes with a collar that you can remove and bam! A new pair of Jordan 1 Lows. The kicks come in a mix of grey leather and nubuck with a dash of blue on the collar! The pair is set to drop on September 11, 2021, for $170!

Last but not least, a women’s exclusive pair is always welcome! The new colorway’s inspiration, the very light green, is the sage herb. In addition to that, the laces come in a white/orange mix! You Can Never Go Wrong With Blue Jordan 3s (and Some 4s)

Now, this pair is not only flip-worthy but flex-worthy too! It comes in awesome white leather, with the fan-favorite cement print. The only special thing about it is the royal blue midsole details. So, if our description floats your boat, then be ready to cop on July 10, 2021, for $190! The sneaker also resells for $450, so there’s that!

Another pair of 4s is pretty monochromatic, and a women’s exclusive too! It features a neutral buttery leather upper. It’s a pretty simple pair that you can easily style with anything. If you want in on that, Jordan 4 Shimmer drops on September 3, 2021!

5s, 6s, All New Air Jordans!

The more kicks we’re getting, the hotter the colorways. And first up, we got a classic, sentimental colorway, on an awesome silhouette! The Shattered Backboard has an awesome story behind it that you can read here. In 2021, Jordan 5 rocks the colorway with a white leather upper, and all the orange and black action in the midsole! Anyway, the kicks will drop on September 25, 2021.

The next two kicks are a women’s exclusive and an interesting color mix on the Air Jordan 6! First up, we got the Golden Hoops AJ6 dropping on July 1, 2021! The pair features a mix of white and an extremely light pink hue along with a golden hangtag. The pair resells for about $300, so pretty worth it in our opinion!

The last Jordan 6 on the list is a cool mashup of dark grey, light grey, purple, and poppin’ orange! Air Jordan 6 Bordeaux is pretty lively and will drop on September 4, 2021, for $190. It’s a pretty nice pair for the warm season yo!

A Flashback from the 90s!

Now, last but not least, we have 5 more sneakers from 11s all through the 14s! First up, we got the interesting-looking Air Jordan 11 IE Bred. It features the classic bred colorway that makes any silhouette instantly awesome! In fact, this pair is specifically a 1996 retro, which adds to the cool factor. But Wait… We Ain’t Done Yet!

Now we move on to the classic Air Jordan 12. It’s pretty famous for things like the Flu Game, well who doesn’t remember that? And now, we’re gonna get two interesting colorways. One will come in a white leather upper and red metallic detailings. Jordan 12 Twist will drop on July 24 for $190.

The second colorway is a nod to Nike’s sustainability movement. It features a black leather upper, but the action goes on in the outsole! Jordan 12 Utility’s outsole is made of at least 3% Nike Grind! The kicks will drop on August 21 for $200. That’s more expensive than usual, but maybe that’s the cost of sustainability?

The second to last pair is a nice take of the obsidian palette on AJ XIII. We all know how successful this colorway is on the Air Jordan 1! So what stops it from being so on the 13s? With its very nice turquoise outsole, the pair will definitely be a banger! You can expect them to drop on August 14, 2021, for $190!

Finally, the last of new Air Jordans on our list is the AJ XIV, and it’s a women’s exclusive! So this colorway is technically a Bred, but the inspiration is actually red lipstick. Moreover, the black “packaging” with the popping red on the top don’t leave much for the imagination! An extra bonus is also the tissue paper with lipstick stains that’ll come with the packaging. The unique pair will drop on September 16, for $170! You better not miss that, especially that it’s a pretty gender-neutral colorway.

Fear of God: The California

Talk about going all out! The California is a closed-front slip-on made of foam that Fear of God designed exclusively. Is FOG throwing shade at Kanye and the Foam Runner? Maybe, since we know that Jerry Lorenzo broke ties with Nike and signed with Adidas! So anyway, the slip-ons look pretty fancy and even their advertisement looks pretty luxurious. I mean, Italian production does scream luxury in my opinion.

The California is available in 4 colorways: Almond, Concrete, Oat, and Cement. And they really look very, and we mean very, similar. The adult pairs retail for $190, while the kids’ pairs go for $145. Bad news though, the adult kicks are already sold out, so it’s resale platforms for you! However, you’re gonna have to pay an average of $600 for a pair. So maybe the Foam Runner resale isn’t too bad?

Merrel Rocks the Yeezy Foam Runner Vibe Really Well!

So we already discussed the Merrell Hydro Moc. However, we didn’t discuss the upcoming collab between Merrell and Reese Cooper! So Reese Cooper is an artist who ended up with his own clothing line that expresses his vision. All his items are made in LA, California, so really making the American dream come true! And now, Cooper is collaborating with Merrel on the pretty cool Hydro Mocs.

Instead of your usual clog-like sandals, we’re getting a running-friendly iteration. It features a breathable mesh upper with the OG sandal design on top of it. The action goes on in the sole though. Instead of the beach vibe outsoles, we’re getting a rugged midsole fit for runners! Although it’s a pretty exciting concept, we still don’t know when they’re dropping! But we’re sure kicks like that won’t go unnoticed. Oh and, to add to the Foam Runner excitement, the kicks are actually called Hydro Runner!

Ever since the beginning of the Coronavirus spread in China, people anticipated financial losses as well as personal losses. However, when the virus spread outside of China, the losses increased exponentially. Now that most of the physical stores are closed, we should look at what the public is buying online. The industries that are all about outdoor activities and travel are actually suffering the most financial losses. On the other hand, some businesses are actually thriving after the lockdown. Some of these are the basic everyday item suppliers like groceries and hygienic items, indoor friendly activities like table tennis, and finally, work from home supplies!

How Is That Affecting All of Us?

Unfortunately, no one was ready for such a blow. Small businesses are mostly suffering, some had to lay off many of their employees to make ends meet. Even with governmental and community help, it’s getting harder to operate through the lockdown. 195 Million jobs are lost, and the number is growing. The pandemic affected more than 2.7 Billion workers worldwide! In turn, consumers are suffering the inability to access essential and basic goods.

As we mentioned, people need E-commerce now more than ever. Amazon is one of the companies that have seen a boom in business after the lockdown. They already hired 100,000 new employees and opened up new 75,000 vacancies! Moreover, they raised the pay rates for all employees, in an act of support and gratitude for all the extra work they’re putting in.

Sneaker Brands Face Major Financial Losses

In light of everything that happened, the sportswear sector is taking a huge hit. The longer the lockdown, the bigger the financial losses. Although online shopping is still going on and actually growing bigger in some areas, we can’t ignore the fact that the supply and demand chain is disrupted. Especially with major entertainment, sports and political events being pushed back or canceled. This also applies to sports events and games all across the world. Actually, by March 21 sports apparel faced sales declines of around 60% to 90% depending on the type of sports. Now let’s dig a little deeper and see how big the financial losses of the sneaker brands are. 

Nike

The sportswear giant is expected to lose $3.5B by the fourth quarter of 2020. However, we gotta give it to them, they’re facing the COVID-19 financial losses in a very good way. The initiative they took by donating $15M+ to date and producing face shields earned them respect throughout the industry.

During the Coronavirus outbreak, Nike is still operating through its apps and online. The company also made NTC Premium free to Nike members to help consumers stay active by working out at home. The result was an 80% increase in engagement and online sales jumped more than 30% in China. So all in all, Nike is one of the sneaker brands that are dealing fairly well with the crisis.

Adidas

There have been many ups and downs for the Three Stripes Brand. The most notable being recent news talking about a $3.3B loan from the German government and different banks. In addition to that, Adidas isn’t currently able to provide a financial outlook for 2020. But Adidas’ loss might not just be just on a financial level.

The memory of the backlash for not closing on time and trying to wiggle their way out of rent payments is still fresh in people’s minds! And now, we’ve got this loan which people think should’ve been spent where it matters most: on health care and supporting those in need.

Reebok

Being Adidas’ subsidiary, the financial losses will undoubtedly hit both sneaker brands equally.

New Balance

New Balance is actually one of the first sneaker brands to start producing face masks to fight Coronavirus. It also donated $2M to organizations in different fields. However, there is no official statement about the financial losses they’re facing in the current situation.

Puma

Puma doesn’t see itself recovering from the losses in the short term, and that’s the hard truth.

Where Does the Sneaker Industry Stand Today?

The sneaker industry generally, is still standing its ground. After all, sneakerheads will always be sneakerheads and the love of kicks will never die down. However, the production became much slower than usual because most of it is located in China.

Where Do Releases and the Resale Market Stand?

As we have seen in the last month, the release dates of many sneakers changed. That could be due to the fact that the production is slower, so the stock isn’t enough yet. Weirdly enough though, Yeezy releases didn’t change at all. But then again, Kanye never played by the rulebook, did he?

The resale market isn’t really affected by the Coronavirus crisis yet. However, StockX announced that they’re adding a 3% processing fee for buyers. That will be an addition to the already existing fee for users. This news received quite a backlash from users which most of them decided to go for different resale platforms like eBay. Meanwhile, eBay won over resellers by removing the 10% fee for North American resellers!

StockX fees be like:

Authentication fee – 10%
Processing fee – 3%
Packing paper fee – $2
Putting the label on the box fee – 1%

First: Protect Clean Sneakers at All Costs!

Preventing your clean sneakers from getting dirty or scratched is the number one trick. That’s the treatment head-turner kicks deserve, no cap. Simply spray them with a stain and water repellent. There are many protectors against liquids and stains and they’re safe to use on suede and leather. Spray sneaker protectors before you wear them even for the first time! Test the effectiveness of the repellent using a couple of water drops. Ideally, they should roll off of the shoe.

Second: Naturally, You Gotta Thoroughly Clean Sneakers

When?

Clean your sneakers immediately after using or wearing them. You can’t store sneakers when they’re dirty fam, that’s a hard no from every sneakerhead. Because the longer the bacteria sits, the worse it will smell and the harder it will be to clean.

How to Clean Sneakers? 

Spot clean sneakers using a sponge or sneaker wet wipes to remove stubborn and off the surface stains. Then, you can deep clean it by soaking it in water and washing detergent. Scrub gently using a brush. There are different types of brushes for different jobs: soft, coarse, etc… Watch out for delicate areas such as mesh or suede though, they shouldn’y come in contact with water. You can use a sneaker eraser for that!

All you gotta do is dedicate one or two minutes when you return home to spot clean your sneaker. This way, you might even need to use other cleaning methods. After that, you can eliminate harder dirt stains and scuff marks by deep cleaning using the following methods:

Brush 

Handwash your sneaker using a brush, laundry detergent, and water. Use tar and sap removers for tar stains. You can use this method for suede shoes, but it is preferable if you use vinegar instead. You may want to remove the laces and wash them separately in the washing machine.

When to Clean Sneakers in a Washing Machine

You can clean your sneakers by spraying them down with a garden hose. Or you can wash both canvas and non-canvas sneakers in a washing machine. However, always double check because not all sneakers are machine washable. Remember to remove the laces and wash both separately in a pillowcase or a laundry washing bag. Washing detergents are usually safe and good for the job. You should avoid using a washing machine if the fabric (suede) would be damaged by the machine or detergent. You can also add towels to prevent your kicks from banging around while washing.

Baking Soda – White Vinegar – Hydrogen Peroxide

The best way to clean the soles of your sneakers is by using baking soda and rubbing alcohol.  Use a brush or submerge them in a shallow pan. They act as disinfectants and deodorizers. Baking soda is perfect to remove bad odors, especially from insoles. You can soak the insoles in baking soda overnight using a plastic bag.

Essential Oils

Did you know? You can clean your sneakers and make them smell good too using lavender, lemon, peppermint, and rosemary.

Freezer

Mostly used to dry sticky substances out. Put the kicks in a freezer-safe bag to make the sticky substance brittle and easy to scrape off.

Eraser

Having clean sneakers can be the result of a white eraser. Thanks to it, you can lift stains off of white non-suede shoes. It might also work on certain suede shoes, but make sure your eraser is white.

Toothpaste

Works best for leather or white shoes particularly on rubber midsoles and toe caps. You can rinse it off or wipe it using a damp cloth if it’s leather.

Kiwi Whitener

Helpful for discolored sneakers, as it protects leather sneakers and keeps them shiny. These are very effective on white soles that usually get discolored easily.

Now That You Have Clean Sneakers

Now that they’re brand new and spotless again, let your newly clean sneakers dry naturally. You can dry them first using paper towels, but avoid rubbing. Never put your clean sneakers in a dryer or a radiator. Give them time to dry properly but don’t expose them to direct sunlight, especially if they’re leather kicks. After all, a tanning session for kicks is a no-go. If placing your sneakers in a washing machine is a possibility, a dryer is a big NO.

Third: Store Them Properly

We already discussed sneaker storage, and you can read all about it here. But some pointers wouldn’t hurt! Always keep your kicks cool ‘n’ dry, and out of direct sunlight. Make sure you store your kicks properly in either their original boxes, or in plastic box crates. Finally, taking care of your sneakers goes a long way if you’re a collector. The same applies to deadstock kicks that you’re into reselling! After all, new sneakers are always worth the resale!
