Okay so, imagine that you lucked out on getting that really hype sneaker. (Bit of a stretch if you don’t have a sneaker bot, but whatever.) Nike Dunk SB Strangelove “Valentine’s Day”

Valentine’s Day in 2020 was like no other! Nike decided to do a romantic gesture and dropped the pink and red collab with Strangelove Skateboards. Although the brand canceled the online drop and the stock was low, NSB managed to snag pairs for its users! The kicks then dropped at select retailed and Nike SNKRS on February 8, 2020, in a regular and special box. The regulars resell for about $1,500, while the special box goes for $2,200.

Off White x Jordan 5

A pair of kicks that generated so much controversy. People were split between feeling the hype and hating on it. But love it or hate it, the kicks sold out very fast. They were only available on the Nike and Off-White websites. The Off White Jordan 5 might not be the best sneakers in 2020 revenue-wise, but the hype was real! They dropped on February 15, 2020, and currently resell for up to $1,500! The new sail colorway of this pair will probably be more popular, and you can find out why here!

Travis Scott Nike SB Dunk

A Dunk by the Astrowold artist, what more can we ask for? Travis teased this collaboration in so many ways. First, we saw a glimpse of it in his music video. Second, we saw them on lowkey marketing posts on his personal Instagram account! But his collabs honestly don’t need any marketing because the hype is built in! Crowds immediately went wild over this pair. And as usual, they were pretty limited and extremely hard to cop!

The kicks dropped on February 22 and 29 2020, in a special and regular box respectively. And they’re easily some of the best sneaker releases this year. Both drops were hard because the regular box drop was exclusive to select Nike SB retailers. Meanwhile, the special box was an exclusive raffle on Travis Scott’s website! They currently resell for an average of about $2,500 (special) and $2,000 (regular).

Air Dior High & Low

Easily the pair of the year, and on the top 10 list of the most expensive kicks of the decade. A high-end pair of sneakers sure got us all going WOW. The release was a pretty difficult procedure that included a raffle and in-store pickup and safety measures. And we shouldn’t forget a pocket full of money because they retailed for $2,000! The kicks officially dropped on April 6, 2020, and currently resell for starting prices of $7,740 (high) and $5,919 (low).

Travis Scott Air Max 270 “Cactus Trails”

Another Cactus Jack product. This time, the marketing campaign was extremely cool and we had to cop because they looked so good! NSB made sure we could flex this release, and flip it. A Brief History of Air Max 90 Camo Releases

Atmos x Nike Air Max 90 “Duck Hunter Camo”

The camo trend isn’t new to Nike by any means. In fact, the first Air Max 90 Camo dropped back in 2013. It was a collaboration between Nike and the Japanese streetwear brand Atmos. The release was exclusive to Atmos Japan, so naturally, they were very hyped kicks. Actually, the lowest resale value for the kicks is $910.

Although it wasn’t the Air Max Day we wanted in March 2020, we got some really cool kicks. The Air Max 90 “Reverse Camo” was a nod to 2013’s Atmos Air Max 90. And though not as successful as the original version, the kicks still resell for around $225.

So on May 15, 2020, Nike Air Max 90 “Volt Green” dropped to celebrate the silhouette’s 30th anniversary. The kicks retailed for $140 and currently resells for an average of $200.

Orange Is the New Camo!

The upcoming Nike Air Max 90 Camo comes dressed in a flashy orange mesh and an orange duck camo pattern. The outsole also comes in the same shade of orange. Hits of black can be found around the visible air unit and on the heel area, eyelets, and the swoosh.

The kicks will drop on June 16, 2020, for a retail price of $140 on Nike. However, they are reselling for a starting price of $400. Off White Jordan 4 Dresses Up in Sail!

Our first encounter with the kicks dates back to June 2019, during Virgil Abloh’s “Figures of Speech” exhibit. We saw them a second time on the runway during Off White’s FW20 fashion show in Paris!

The new Off White Jordan 4 features and all Sail upper, midsole, and outsole. However, the design shows different materials on the upper, sticking to the same deconstructed theme. Rubber lacewings, heel tab, and mesh are translucent while the upper is made of leather. Virgil Abloh’s trademark “Air” is on the midsole, as usual, in black. Finally, a translucent nylon patch covers the Jumpman on the tongue.

We Have A Release Date!

Rumor had it that Off White Jordan 4 is dropping in the holiday season of 2020. However, we’re getting the kicks around 5 months earlier! The upcoming Off White Jordan 4 “Muslin” is according to zsneakerheadz dropping on July 25, 2020. They will retail for $200. So far, the kicks are dubbed women exclusive, but we don’t know that for sure. Maybe Jordan Brand will expand the sizing to include men’s sizes just like AJ1 UNC to CHI?

Sneaker Brands Take A Stand Against Racism

With the #BlackLivesMatter movement becoming an international affair, everyone feels personally involved. Sneaker brands collectively supported the movement by campaigning or donating to different funds and organizations. Most brands were pretty vocal about it, especially Nike and Adidas. However, not everyone is really buying into words anymore and some people think that brands need to do more deeds and fewer words.

Nike shared the “Don’t Do It” video, which several competitor brands retweeted. Adidas was the first to retweet, and we honestly never thought we’d see something like this happen in a lifetime. However, their support meant nothing to some without seeing some action. Indeed, we still don’t know whether the two brands donated or not. But if they did and don’t wanna make it public, then kudos to them! On another note, Adidas employees seem to be thinking along a different line because they’re staging a protest over racism at Adidas.

Note: Nike just announced that it’s hoping to support the black community by donating $40 million.

Actions Speak Louder Than Words

Brands using their platforms to address this matter is definitely essential. However, words alone cannot help, donations and supporting campaigns do. This is why brands like Supreme and FILA took it to their own hands and donated to different organizations. FILA actually donated $100k to support Black Lives Matter. They’re also encouraging their followers to donate and support the cause.

People always look up to celebrities and athletes and idolize them. So when important matters take the world by storm, everyone sits on the edge of their seats and wait for their favorite celebrity to take a stand. And sure enough, icons like Michael Jordan, LeBron James, and Colin Kaepernick made their opinions loud and clear. However, according to the internet, Virgil Abloh made some controversial and contradictory moves.

Vandalism and Looted Sneakers

Every movement has its lows. The down that faced protesters this time are people breaking into business and looting. Some of the broken-into stores are Flight Club, Foot Locker, DTLR, Nike Store, and many others. A sneaker store owner, Sole Classics in Ohio, had a piece of his mind to share following the loot of his store. Opinions are fluctuating between condemning all the vandalism and looting, or saying that monetary damage can be fixed, while discrimination can’t.

Looted sneakers are already starting to emerge on the internet. The funniest bit to date is a person looking for the second half of a pair of Dunks. However, resale platforms are taking measures against stolen kicks and apparel, and trying to pinpoint any suspicious activity. But selling on platforms that don’t act as a middleman and which don’t provide any means of authentication like Facebook, Instagram, and eBay are the easier road to easily sell the looted sneakers.

Apple Is Always Ahead of Its Time!

Although looted sneakers are very important, we must acknowledge another story out there. With all the chaos around us, Apple is still hard to fool. During the protests, people broke into the Apple store on Walnut Street in Philadelphia and stole their demo items. However, the company disabled the iPhones and put a message on the screen saying: “Please return to Apple Walnut Street. This device has been disabled and is being tracked. Local authorities will be alerted.” So apparently, the demo devices have different software than the ones we buy. This can make tracking any stolen good easier.

Virgil Abloh the Designer and Streetwear Icon

Yes, we can’t deny that he is a talented fashion designer. I mean, Louis Vuitton wouldn’t ink him if he was anything else, much to the disappointment of Kanye West. His Brand Off-White also made a name in streetwear and acts as a bridge connecting luxury to streetwear. However, the sneaker industry is a hard egg to crack, and crack it he did! The Ten collaboration with Nike allowed Virgil to become an icon in the sneaker industry very fast. Now let’s take a look at the best Off-White Nike collabs to date.

Air Jordan 1

The first-ever collaboration with Nike couldn’t have started in a better way! Opting for the deconstructed look, (which became his trademark) Virgil Abloh made it to the Air Jordan 1 history with the Chicago colorway. The kicks retailed for $190 in 2017 but currently resell starting from $3,270.

Two other colorways followed the OG collab. An all-white colorway that’s reselling for at least $2,200 and a blue one that goes for about $1,500.

Nike Air Presto

If it was just an ordinary Presto, you wouldn’t spare it a second glance! However, Virgil Abloh designs are everything but ordinary. When you see the quotation marks, you know something awesome is there for you to see! And indeed, the Off-White Nike Air Presto became the most expensive Air Presto on the resale market, reselling for around $2,000!

A basketball and lifestyle classic coming from a new perspective. Virgil and Nike dropped many AF1s, but not all of them resonated the same. Some colorways were a huge hit, but that’s partly due to the fact that the kicks were extremely rare to come by! So, the top 4 Air Force 1s are:

This one is a crowd favorite with many colorways and collabs. Some of the 90s are very valuable on the resale market. And it comes as no surprise that Virgil’s Air Max 90 with the translucent sole is one of them at around $1,800

What’s Happening on The Secondary Market?

Virgil Abloh has been one of Nike’s best assets, just like Travis Scott, for the last couple of years. However, we can’t help but notice that some of the latest Off-White x Nike releases weren’t as successful as previous releases. Does that mean that Virgil lost his touch in the sneaker industry or are there other reasons impacting his sneakers’ worth? 

Hypebeasts Took Over

We can’t deny the fact that many sneakerheads lost interest in theses designs and accuse “hypebeasts” of being interested in the kicks just for the sake of resale. For example, despite the fact that the OW dunks were very hyped, they resell for somewhere between $370 and $750. The latest of the Virgil Abloh designs was an Air Jordan 5 which had the Off-White trademark holes. This too didn’t sell as high as older designs, but $750 isn’t that bad, is it?

Stock Number

But before jumping to conclusions, there’s always the fact that stock numbers affect the resale value. So maybe the newer Off-White collabs dropped in a bigger stock, but not that big either.

Virgil Is Overwhelmed

On the other hand, Nike is not the only company Virgil Abloh designs for! We know that he’s the Artistic Director of menswear at Louis Vuitton. So maybe LV is draining him? The design process is definitely exhausting, with all the brainstorming and trials until they reach the perfect product. And there’s also Off-White, his own brand, where he’s also head of design. So maybe he bit more than he can chew?
