You see, every OG Jordan that dropped during MJ’s playing days holds a legendary moment with it. This contributed to His Airness becoming the king of endorsements.

Availability

Exclusive runs always win the hype game. The availability of brands like Vans and Converse makes the kicks lose value on the resale market. So naturally, they make really fantastic beaters. However, companies like Nike and Adidas capitalize on exclusivity as well as general releases. An excellent example of that would be Yeezys during their prime. Getting your hands on a pair was a big deal, and the kicks were worth a lot in resale. However, the exclusivity card isn’t a long-term strategy. Sadly, the partnership ended in 2022 and didn’t survive long enough for us to see how things will turn out.

Collaboration is Key to Hyped Sneakers

We’ll repeat, not all collabs are worth the flip, but collabs are usually worth the money you’ll invest in them. When a popular brand collaborates with an equally cool brand, the results are very hyped sneakers! And that’s how an otherwise available brand can give us a hot pair of kicks. Obvious examples of this are Fear of God x Vans Era 95 DX Marshmallow. It retailed for $90 and currently resells for $1,200 on average! Another one is Off-White x Chuck 70 Hi “The Ten” which retailed for $130 and resells for around $1,800. Of course, this was due to the relationship between exclusivity and value. The kicks we mentioned were pretty rare!

On another note, Adidas failed miserably to create hype with their IVY PARK and Pharrell partnerships. Yeezy, as we already mentioned, lost some of its appeal but was still worth copping. However, sneaker collabs like Travis Scott with Jordan and Nike are literally what’s keeping the hype world together. So, again, there’s more at play here than what meets the eye.

A Good Endorsement Does Wonders!

Choosing the right athlete is crucial to the marketing game. The Jordan endorsement is living proof of that. Remember the time when Michael Jordan didn’t want to sign with Nike? Converse, as the best basketball shoe company back then, didn’t see much in a rookie. MJ wanted to sign with Adidas but they couldn’t make basketball shoes so they passed up on the offer. However, Nike was willing to sign a deal, and thanks to Mama Jordan, they did!

After signing the deal and agreeing to give Jordan his own shoe, Nike expected $3 million worth of sales. However, they ended up selling $126 million! So how does that relate to our talk? Simply put, Michael Jordan, even as a rookie, was a sensation and the public loved him. This love translated into sales when the first Air Jordan 1 dropped in 1985! Yeezy Foam Runner and The Identity Crisis

Don’t come at us because we love the foamies too, but let’s be real here. The kicks look like they’re having an identity crisis! They kinda look like a futuristic take on your average pair of Crocs, which are currently in vogue it seems. And if you look hard enough, you can see traces of the Yeezy 700s in there. We’re not saying we hate it (we clearly don’t), we’re just saying that they’re not your average silhouette! Of course, something this weird split the crowds in two. The first half wouldn’t wear them even for money, while the second half can’t wear anything else anymore.

Now, when it comes to comfort, these babies are serving! They’re no Boosts, but they certainly outdid Yeezy Slides and then some. The Yeezy Foam Runner is made of part petroleum-based EVA foam and part algae. This makes the Foam Runners the first vegan kicks in the line since Adidas is trying to decrease its carbon footprint. Finally, the Runners are pretty comfortable, durable, and breathable, which is all a sneakerhead could ask for!

We’re kicking it off with the famous shutter shades. When we tell you that the 2000s were wild times, we’re not kidding. In his “Stronger” music video, Kanye wore a very interesting accessory. You guessed it! The shutter shades. The not-so-glassy glasses soon became a must-have among fans. Moreover, some celebrities rocked this trend like Paris Hilton! However, nobody does it better than Ye, and the shades became known as “Kanye West Glasses”.

He Helped Turn Streetwear into High-End Fashion 

Along with Virgil Abloh and Pharrell Williams, Kanye West paved the way for streetwear to become high-end fashion! The first Yeezy 700 “Wave Runner” was seen at the Yeezy Season 5 fashion show in February 2017. And it officially dropped later in August 2017. Meanwhile, the Balenciaga Triple S didn’t drop till September 2017! So we’ve got a clear winner here.

First, let’s just say those leather joggers were just a bad idea. It’s as bad as trying to make “fetch” happen. But we cannot ignore the fact that Kanye West made these popular for a while! These completely useless, uncomfy joggers were Kanye’s trademark for a while. He actually claimed back in 2013 that he invented the joggers. But, let’s just pray they stay in 2013 and don’t come back.

Whenever we think about earth tones, Kanye West immediately pops into our minds. It’s not exactly fashion influence, but this color theme became his playfield since Yeezy Season 1! And if we simply take a look at Adidas Yeezy lineups through the years, we’ll know that tonals are it.

Brought Adidas Back into the Game… And Took It Out Again

When the first Yeezy was released, Adidas’ share became 30% of the resale market after a low 1%. But that’s not all! The sales in North America witnessed a 5% boost (pun intended). So it’s kinda obvious that the Yeezy partnership helped Adidas a lot after being in a tight spot. It actually came back on the hype map after almost going stale.

We wish it had to do with Adidas as a brand, but after dropping Kanye, it became obvious that he carried the hype. If you really listen closely, you can hear Kanye rapping hard about them polos! But the one polo color that stood out for everyone was the pink mustard-stained one he wore in his “All Fall Down” music video. Kanye never shied away from wearing popping colors, especially pink! And we can see him wearing pink on several occasions.

Kanye West also broke the “macho” stereotype by wearing women’s clothing. He’s not really the first to do that, but he’s one the most influential! Really… Who can pull off a Céline shirt or a skirt while still looking manly as heck? So we can give him that, he paved the way for mixing masculine and feminine fashion! When Ye and GAP announced their 10-year partnership with Yeezy the brand’s sales actually jumped a nice 42%! GAP actually covered their Chicago store with a handwritten message from Kanye. Moreover, this collab was important enough to make Kanye come back to Twitter! After all, it was the #WESTDAYEVER! Yeezy GAP was 2021’s hottest partnership and both brands took marketing to a new level in 2022.

But all good things must come to an end, and this end was not as happy as we thought it would be. Kanye ended the partnership in September 2022, and well, the Adidas split followed soon enough. However, the oversized puffy leather fit was there to stay, even if the partnership didn’t. In fact, people speculated that Rihanna’s Super Bowl fit (and platform stage) took inspiration from Ye!

How Did Sneaker Collaborations Start?

Before we get to the actual music introduction to the industry, we gotta pay a tribute to the OG collaborator: Chuck Taylor. I mean, Converse named the whole silhouette after him, so he must have done something right! Chuck Taylor was a basketball player who turned into a pretty successful salesman later on. In fact, he joined Converse in 1921 as a salesman and helped develop sneakers a lot. His success got his name on the Converse All-Star tag, and we got the first celebrity sneaker endorsement ever!

When Did Music and Sneakers Cross Paths?

Chuck Taylor and Converse were definitely ahead of their time. That’s probably why it took the sneaker industry years and years to catch up! The 70s were good years for athletic sneaker endorsements. And then came Michael Jordan in 1984 and introduced the concept of hype and exclusive collabs, in a way. Air Jordans almost became a status symbol on the streets, with movies referencing them and so on. Today, Jordan Brand is almost a standalone brand that needs no introduction anymore. If you’re not familiar with the history of the brands, let’s check it out really fast now. So first up, we got Nike. Bill Bowerman and Phil Knight started the Blue Ribbon Sports in 1964. That was before they opted for Nike, after the Greek goddess of victory. And it was uphill from there peeps! If you wanna check out the history of the Nike logo and more, check this out.

On the other hand, Adidas’ story is a bit more interesting because it was born out of a nasty family feud. The German Adolf and Rudolf Dassler initially started the “Dassler Brothers Shoe Factory” in 1924. However, as we said, a family feud ensued and the brothers split. Adolf “Adi” Dassler went on and started Adidas while Rudolf started Ruda, or Puma as we know it today. That was back in 1949, and still going strong.

Nike vs Adidas Market Shares

It’s common knowledge that both companies made a huge impact on sportswear. After all, they introduced some crazy classics that we all own or owned at some point. However, it’s pretty interesting how their areas of influence are distributed! For example, Nike’s main revenue comes from North America, which kinda makes sense. However, Adidas’ main revenue comes from the Asia-Pacific region. This region includes the southeast and east of Asia and Oceania. Interestingly enough, Europe comes second in revenues for both companies.

But how much are Nike and Adidas worth? Well, it’s worth noting that both brands’ values dropped in 2021. Nike is currently worth around $30.44B, which is $4B less than 2020. Meanwhile, Adidas is worth $14.3B, $2B less than 2020. So in this round of the Nike vs Adidas rivalry, Nike clearly wins.

Collabs Are As Important as Ever!

How do brands grow and stay relevant? Besides the development of technologies and awesome marketing, we got collabs. And both brands are pretty generous on that front! But I think you already know what the best sneaker collabs are. And if you don’t, then carry on with your reading!

First off, we got Nike. You know, the Swoosh seriously hit a mega jackpot with Michael Jordan’s endorsement. Although the GOAT wanted to be on Adidas’ side, the brand felt like they had enough athletes on board. In the meantime, Nike pulled off a great presentation and eventually managed to sign MJ in 1984. Thus, the sneaker legacy of Air Jordan was born!

Next up, we have Adidas. Although we usually hear about celebs leaving Adidas in favor of Nike, in this case, it was the opposite. I mean, Kanye West is always surprising us with his interesting moves, but that was next-level. So, in 2013, Adidas and Kanye gave us the amazing Adidas Yeezy empire. Some more collabs and both sides are worth mentioning, like Travis Scott and Pharrell Williams. So, in conclusion, the Nike vs Adidas rivalry is definitely up and running!

The Nike vs Adidas Tech Battle

Now we’re getting to the juicy bit. Some people argue that new cushioning techs are what actually made Adidas relevant again at some point. But what technologies make Nike pretty special? Let’s find out.

Both companies went above and beyond on their technology development. However, we’ll just settle for our top four by each brand. Let’s start with Adidas and its best cushioning technologies! First off we got the very interesting 4D cushioning, Bounce, and Cloudfoam. However, the actual technology that gave Adidas a headstart is the mighty Boost! You can read all about it here.

Now off to Nike who doesn’t take the Nike vs Adidas competition lightly. But we kinda appreciate how Nike sticks to the classics that work just fine to this day. I mean, why fix what isn’t broken? Maybe upgrade it sometimes, which they did with the Air and Air Zoom cushioning! We also have ZoomX cushioning which was pretty controversial, and almost got banned from the 2020 Olympics! So, all in all, we’ll call it a draw here! The Nike vs Adidas battle evens out when we talk about cushioning. You know, both brands gave a lot to the sneaker industry, and we can’t choose one over the other.

You didn’t honestly think that we’d have an answer to that, did you? We’re talking about the biggest 2 brands in the sneaker/ sportswear industry. And we definitely don’t see either of them going anywhere anytime soon, and we hope we don’t. It’s the competition that keeps the game going, especially in the case of Nike vs Adidas.

Moreover, when things get bad, everyone apparently puts their differences aside. When the pandemic and the US riots against racism were pretty intense, something pretty interesting happened. Adidas actually retweeted Nike and supported the cause, which sent everyone off the wall! But well, we back to the competition now fam, and that’s the fun of it all.

The Yeezy September Release Lineup Looks Pretty Clean

Okay so, despite not having concrete proof about the whole Yeezy September release lineup, we’ll share what we know! And what we know is pretty interesting so far. Let’s just hope Kanye puts the same energy into these drops as he did with Donda. Now, let’s check out what Ye has up his sleeve!

Slides Coming Strong This Season!

Say what you will about socks and slides, they’ll always be the go-to style at home (and sometimes outside). And this September we’re getting not one, but two new colorways! If you’re a popping kinda person, the Glow Green colorway should be on your copping list. There’s also the extra perk of an average resale value of $357!

However, if you’re more of a neutral kind of person, Yeezy Slide Pure is restocking! With a resale value of $208 on average, it’s also a catch. Both colorways will drop on September 6, 2021, for a retail price of $60. Be sure to keep them on your must-have list, because both slides are a snag!

Yeezy 700 MNVN Honey Flux – The Best Yeezy September Release?

This is a very fall-ish colorway, to be honest. I mean, this passes as a pale version of the orange MNVNs, but it still looks good. The usual nylon upper comes in the ‘honey flux’ colorway we’re discussing. The usual Boost midsole is here as usual, and we appreciate that. The kicks are set to drop on September 13, 2021, for $220. Although we don’t have a resale value just yet, we expect a number that shouldn’t be too shabby!

Yeezy 500 Brown Clay

Okay so, we don’t wanna be too critical of this colorway, but it reminds us of something other than clay. Joking, joking! This colorway is the epitome of fall colors, and we do love us some browns. The colorway is still in the rumor phase, yet we have a possible release date: September 18, 2021. Keep it locked on our blog for more news about the kicks once we have them.

Potential Additions to Our Yeezy September Release List

In addition to the Yeezys we already discussed we got some more rumors! A certain Yeezy 350 V2 MX Rock kinda caught our attention. It looks like the awesome Yeezy Foam Runner MXT Moon Grey. The new 350s could pass as Foam Runner alternatives that we’d definitely go for! One thing we know for sure is that the kicks will retail for $220 as usual.

Last, but not least, we gotta give some love to the new Yeezy QNTM colorway. It will come in a pitch-black Onyx colorway that makes it hard for us to ignore. It will definitely be a great addition to your fall rotation of sneakers. The kicks will probably retail for $250 as usual!

Brace yourself! The Yeezy ranking game is strong here because I’m gonna choose my favorite colorways of every silhouette so far. But just a disclaimer, I didn’t include the 450s and slides. The 450s only have two colorways, so it’s not gonna be fair game. On the other hand, all Yeezy Slides look the same to me so I love them equally. Anyway, let’s get to business!

Yeezy 350 – AKA the Best Yeezys That Exist

Do we even have to say why we love the OG 350s? For starters, they’re awesome, and they kickstarted the Kanye x Adidas partnership in 2015. It’s really hard to actually choose a favorite because all the colorways are pretty lit. But if it comes to it, my hands-down faves will be the Turtledove and the Oxford Tan!

Yeezy 350 V2 – The 350s, but Better

So these came in all shapes and colors (almost). And we really wouldn’t dream of ranking them in a million years. But whenever someone asks you what your favorite 350 V2 is, one certain colorway will definitely pop in your head. Well, three in my case. So my favorite colorways are definitely the Beluga 2.0, the Black & White Oreos, and the popping Clays. However, an honorable mention goes to the latest Mono pack because the colorways were really cool.

Yeezy 380

Let’s get something straight, this silhouette got a lot of hate initially. But real sneakerheads don’t really care about the hype and rock whatever feels right. That’s why the 380s are underrated in my opinion. But Kanye isn’t helping their reputation with some of the latest ugly a$$ colorways. So if I had to choose, I would definitely go for the OG Aliens and Yeezy 380 Onyx. It’s okay if you’re still in a love-hate relationship with the silhouette fam, you’ll get over it.

Yeezy 500 – What Do You Mean No Boost?

If that wasn’t your initial reaction, are you even a Yeezy fan? Anyway, I’ll keep my judgment to myself and the best Yeezys on this list. At first, I was pretty skeptical about their bulkiness and lack of Boost cushioning. But just like everything Kanye does, the silhouette kinda grew on me. And today my favorite colorways are definitely Yeezy 500 Blush and Salt. Styling these Yeezys is a pretty exciting trip, trust me.

Yeezy 700 – The Best Yeezys Look Like Dad Shoes… Right? RIGHT?

Let’s just say that 2017 was the year in which bulky dad shoes officially infiltrated the sneaker industry. Well, that’s thanks to Kanye West’s fashion influence! But really, the Waverunner made such a bang when it dropped, we still feel the hype to this day. My second favorite would be the Magnets, because the colorway is pretty interesting and not boring.

Yeezy 700 V2

Why do people tend to fix what’s not even broken? But well, we’re not sad about that, we got some pretty awesome colorway! And if you ask me, a simple colorway should go with bulky kicks. You can’t be very in-your-face when it comes to dad shoes. So the winners in this category are the Statics and Hospital Blue.

Yeezy 700 V3

Okay, Kanye, we hear you. These kicks are absolutely out of this world, and so are their names. The outside cage definitely gave the kicks an air of alien-like design. And don’t get me wrong, I’m all for V3s despite them being Boostless, which seems like a recurring thing lately. And my favorites would be the all-black Alvah and the really blue Arzareth. (I do have a thing for blue kicks if you ask me.)

Yeezy 700 MNVN

You know, MNVN is like that middle child who’s trying so hard to impress their parents. But really, if you always wanted a 700 but thought the price was too much, this was a cheaper alternative. Instead of the much fancier upper, we got a reflective nylon upper. And if I had to choose favorites, I’d go for the Triple Black and Bone!

Yeezy 750 – One of the Best Yeezys for the Winter?

A hybrid of UGGs and combat boots never looked any better. The sneakers (if we can call them that) were a sensation when they first dropped. And they’re still worth the money if you own a pair and want to flip it. Anyway, my favorite colorway will definitely be the Black 750s and the Chocolate-Gum colorway.

Yeezy Foam Runner

The hypebeast Crocs. I’m kidding, the Foam Runners really grew on me without even trying. The algae-based kicks are easy to slip on, easy to kick off! So whether you’re running some errands or hanging out with the crew, these are for you. However, if you’re looking for alternatives, we rounded them up here! But anyway, I’m a sucker for neutral slip-ons so imma just go for Ararat and MXT Moon Grey.

Yeezy QNTM

Last but not least, these were “revolutionary” basketball kicks. Unfortunately, we’re not seeing anyone rock them on the court anymore. I mean, that’s good for us because they make sick lifestyle sneakers. Although the newer colorways are meh at best, I still think the OG QNTM and the Bariums are worth owning.

Now That You Know what My Best Yeezys Are…

What are the best yeezys to you? It always comes in handy to keep a list of grails just in case they restock. Worst case scenario, you can buy Yeezys off the resale market. However, prepare yourself to pay some big cash because some kicks are worth their weight in gold! Another option is to hold on to that money. Who knows? We might get some pretty fresh silhouettes and colorways in the future!

Yeezy Light – Not Your Average 350

So at first sight, you’d think that you’re dealing with another monochromatic Yeezy 350. God knows we got so many of these. However, this one is like an easter egg! The cream white Primeknit upper, along with the translucent stripe, are both UV sensitive. In other words, when you expose your kicks to sunlight, the Primeknit will turn into a soft pink shade. The stripe will go from translucent white to a very cool amber color.

Pretty exciting right? This is the first time we get this tech on a Yeezy. And that’s totally cool since Ye and Co. seem to be experimenting with materials and tech. The Monofilament pack is still pretty fresh in our minds yo! Anyway, a translucent white Boost midsole completes the look as usual with white rope laces.

In the wake of Yeezy Day and all the Ls so many of us took, we need Yeezy Light in our lives! The kicks will probably drop on August 28, 2021, for the usual $220. And whether you’re expanding your sneaker collection or wanna flip, retail is your friend. The kicks are worth $499 on average on the aftermarket! So if you wanna make some good cash from the reselling side gig, you need to buy on retail.

What’s Yeezy Day?

So back in 2019, YeezySupply surprised everyone and restocked Yeezys that were otherwise unattainable. They dropped small quantities of lots of popular kicks. So it was a serious battle of speed because they sold out really fast. That event happened on August 2, 2019, and since then, that date became Yeezy Day! Although we had high expectations for 2020, it kinda disappointed us, so will 2021 be better?

Yeezy Day 2021 – What to Expect

So YeezySupply got out pants in a twist with their Yeezy Day countdown! Although it’ll happen in the US on August 2, it’ll apparently roll out on August 3 in Europe and Asia. 

The Waverunner Ahoy!

So YeezySupply is pretty shady about it so far, but that doesn’t mean that there are no leaks! What we know for sure though, is that the iconic Yeezy 700 Waverunner is making a comeback once again! The colorway was the first colorway of the Yeezy 700 silhouettes, and the best if you ask me. 

This colorway restocked twice since its initial 2017 release, which made its aftermarket value drop dramatically. If you wanna check out the history of other Yeezy restocks, check this out. However, the kicks are still worth owning for another reason than the clearly awesome look. The kicks are worth around $700 on average today on the resale market!

New Yeezy 700 V3, Who Dat?

Yeezy Boots & Heartbreak

So all eyes were looking in one direction a couple of days ago. On July 22, 2021, Kanye West hosted Donda’s listening party at the Mercedes Benz Stadium in Atlanta. It’s a pretty symbolic choice of place because Ye was born there. It’s also the home of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and Donda West when she was studying at Atlanta University. So anyway, 42,000 people attended the listening party, including Kim Kardashian! It’s nice to see divorcees support each other despite their differences, right?

But that’s not what we’re here to discuss though. We gathered today to discuss Kanye’s sick fit, head to toe, literally. Our homeboy showed up to the event in an awesome red Yeezy x Gap jacket along with red pants. Now we have the head mask stocking-like thingy, and we can’t explain that fashion decision honestly. But this could go into his fashion repertoire, so we’re good. Finally, we got the very orange Yeezy boots!

So What Exactly Is it?

The new Yeezy Boots, aka Yeezy 1020v, looks like a hybrid sneaker-boot. Although we got previous teasers months ago, it always feels good to see them on the OG Yeezy. So the 1020v we got to see is so orange it kinda hurts to look at. We kinda got some serious Red October vibes, but on Yeezy boots. The kicks also look like they’re inspired by aliens. And we’re not really surprised, because that theme seems to be recurring in different Yeezy lines! I mean, one of the Yeezy names is literally Alien, so Ye is pretty explicit about that.

Will the New Yeezy Boots Drop Anytime Soon?

Now that’s the question everyone is asking. Well, we know Kanye’s tendency to hype something for so long and eventually drop it 3 years later. Yes, we’re looking at you Yeezy 450. Anyway, what we know for sure is that Donda will definitely dop before the Yeezy boots! And there don’t seem to be any release date leaks. That means that it definitely won’t drop any time soon.
